The University of Bristol has opened its first international campus anywhere in the world — and it is in Powai, a short drive from us.
The Mumbai Enterprise Campus sits at the Cignus Powai development, near Powai Lake and directly across from IIT Bombay. It opened in August 2026, with its first cohort arriving for the September intake. Up to 250 students are expected in year one, with the university projecting more than 2,500 within five years.
That growth curve is why this page exists. A new campus does not just bring students — it brings parents at enrolment, faculty relocating from the UK, industry partners, admissions events and open days. All of them need somewhere to stay, and Powai’s hotel inventory has not grown to match.
Where the campus is, and how far we are
Cignus Powai is in the Passpoli pocket of Powai. We are on Saki Vihar Road, opposite the lane of L&T Gate No. 6 — a short drive, a matter of minutes outside peak hours.
- Confirm the floor and tower. Cignus Powai is a multi-storey commercial development and the campus occupies specific floors. Ask for the floor number before you travel; "Cignus Powai" alone gets a driver to the building, not the door.
- Morning sessions: allow 30 minutes. Powai’s internal roads slow badly between 9 and 10:30 AM.
- Visitor security in commercial towers takes time on a first visit — build in fifteen minutes beyond your appointment.
- Autos are available on Saki Vihar Road; app cabs are reliable in this pocket, including late.
- Mumbai Airport (T2) is roughly 25 minutes, which matters for families and faculty flying in.
Who we expect to host, and what each group needs
Parents at enrolment and orientation. The largest group, and the one under the most pressure. A family travelling from another state — sometimes another country — to settle a student into a new city. Typically two or three nights, sometimes longer while accommodation is sorted. They want a clean room, a fair rate, an easy commute to campus, and a front desk that answers the phone.
Students arriving before housing is finalised. An international-standard campus in its first year means accommodation arrangements that are still settling. A fortnight in a hotel while a flat or hostel place is confirmed is a common pattern — and exactly what our Teak Studio with its kitchenette is built for, on weekly rates.
Faculty and staff relocating. Academics moving from the UK or elsewhere in India, needing a base for weeks rather than nights while they find housing. Long-stay rates, reliable Wi-Fi for calls back to the home institution, and a GST invoice their employer will accept.
Prospective students and families visiting. Open days, interviews and campus visits before a decision is made. Usually one or two nights, often combined with looking at IIT Bombay or other Powai institutions in the same trip.
Industry and research partners. The campus was launched alongside a strategic partnership with TCS and is built around industry collaboration, so visiting teams from partner organisations are a steady stream — short business stays needing correct company billing.
Visiting academics and conference delegates as the campus builds out its research programme.
Why families base themselves here rather than by the lake
The hotels closest to Powai Lake and the campus are largely five-star properties, priced accordingly. For a single celebratory night that may be the right call. For a family staying three nights around enrolment, or a student waiting two weeks for a flat, the arithmetic changes completely.
A few minutes further out on Saki Vihar Road you get the same access, a working neighbourhood with somewhere to eat late, and rates that make a longer stay sustainable. You are also better placed for the rest of Powai — the L&T campus, the IT parks, SEEPZ and Andheri East.
Which room suits which visit
- Parents visiting, or a couple: the Cedar Deluxe — twin beds, work desk, fast Wi-Fi. Maximum 2 guests.
- Two parents and the student: the Banyan Trio, up to 3 guests in one room — the most economical family arrangement.
- A student or staff member waiting on housing: the Teak Studio with kitchenette, on weekly or monthly rates.
- Faculty, or a family wanting more comfort: The Mahogany Soak, our signature studio and the only room here with a full bathtub.
Practical notes for international families
- Original photo ID is required for every guest at check-in — including the student. Foreign nationals need a passport and valid visa; we complete Form C registration as required.
- Tell us it is a campus arrival. Knowing you have an 8 AM orientation means breakfast is ready before you leave and a cab is arranged rather than hunted for.
- Longer stays are cheaper by the week. Ask for weekly or monthly rates rather than booking night by night.
- Luggage can be held after checkout — useful when a flat handover happens in the afternoon.
- GST invoices on every stay, with company or institutional billing supported.
- The front desk is staffed 24×7, which matters when a long-haul flight lands at 2 AM.
Powai as a place to settle into
For a family leaving a student here for the first time, it helps to know the neighbourhood is genuinely liveable. Powai Lake and its promenade are minutes away.
