Where Airbnb wins
Large groups needing a full apartment, families wanting a real kitchen for a week-plus stay, and travellers who want to live inside a residential society rather than visit a neighbourhood. If that's the trip, book the apartment.
What the listing doesn't show
- Check-in friction: society gates, key handovers and hosts who reply at their convenience. A hotel front desk answers at 1 AM; ours is staffed 24×7.
- Cleaning reality: a cleaning fee is not daily housekeeping. Hotels reset your room every day.
- The billing problem: reimbursable work trips need GST invoices — most hosts can't issue them; every serious hotel can.
- Cancellation asymmetry: hosts can cancel on you days out with little recourse. A 17-room hotel that cancels a confirmed booking doesn't survive in a suburb this small — reputation is our deposit.
The cost math, honestly
Add the cleaning fee and service fee to a Powai apartment's nightly rate and it usually lands at or above a renovated 3-star room booked direct — without breakfast, housekeeping or a desk that fixes problems in minutes.
