If you are sitting an exam in Powai and travelling in from outside Mumbai, this page has the two things that actually matter: where the centres are, and how to make sure nothing goes wrong on the morning.

We are a hotel on Saki Vihar Road, and we host exam candidates constantly — enough to know exactly what goes wrong and why. Almost none of it is about the exam itself.

The exam centres in Powai

iON Digital Zone iDZ Powai

Aurum IT Park, Saki Vihar Road, Morarji Nagar, near Hotel Ramada, Powai, Mumbai 400087

This is the big one. It is a TCS iON centre, and it hosts computer-based tests for banking recruitment, SSC, Railways, UPSC, university entrance exams, PSU recruitment and professional certifications.

It sits on Saki Vihar Road — the same road as this hotel. That proximity is the whole reason this page exists.

  • Nearest railway station: Kanjurmarg, about 3 km
  • From Andheri station: roughly 7 km by auto or BEST bus
  • Nearest metro: Aarey JVLR, Marol Naka and Saki Naka are all within about 2.5 km

Chandrabhan Sharma College of Arts, Science & Commerce

Adi Shankaracharya Marg, Vihar Complex, Powai, Mumbai 400076

Used as a centre for a number of entrance and aptitude tests. A short drive from Saki Vihar Road.

Before you travel: confirm the exact centre name and address printed on your admit card. Mumbai has many test centres, several with similar names, and only the one on your card counts. Bring the admit card to our front desk at check-in and we will tell you the realistic travel time and arrange a cab for your reporting time.

These dates are indicative. Exam bodies revise schedules, and shift timings and centre allocation vary by candidate. Your admit card is the only authority. Always confirm your date, reporting time and centre address there before booking travel. We refresh this list each quarter.

The five things that actually go wrong

In our experience it is never the syllabus. It is one of these.

1. Confusing reporting time with exam time

This is the single biggest one. Computer-based tests close the gate well before the exam starts — reporting is usually an hour or more ahead, and gate closure is strictly enforced. Candidates arrive at what they think is a comfortable margin and find the doors shut.

Read the reporting time on your admit card, not the exam time. Then work backwards from it.

2. Going to the wrong centre

Mumbai has multiple test centres, and several share similar names. Powai alone has more than one. Match the address on your admit card exactly — including the building and area, not just the city.

3. Underestimating Mumbai traffic

A four-kilometre journey in Powai at 8 AM is not a ten-minute journey. The roads around Saki Vihar Road and JVLR slow badly between roughly 8 and 10:30 AM, which is exactly when most morning shifts report.

Leave 45 minutes ahead even for a short journey. Arriving early and waiting is a far better problem than the alternative.

4. Travelling in on the exam morning

Every session, candidates try to reach a Mumbai centre by early train or bus from another city. Most make it. The ones who do not, do not get another chance — the slot is gone, and the next cycle may be a year away.

Staying the night before removes that entire category of risk for the cost of one night.

5. ID and document problems at the gate

  • Original photo ID — not a photocopy, not a photo on your phone. Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID.
  • Printed admit card, usually with a recent photograph affixed where the instructions require it.
  • Check your admit card for anything else specific — some exams require additional documents or a particular photo format.
  • Most centres prohibit phones, smart watches, calculators and bags inside the hall. Assume you cannot take anything in.

Getting to the Powai centre

We are on Saki Vihar Road, opposite the lane of L&T Gate No. 6. The iON Digital Zone centre is on the same road at Aurum IT Park — a short ride, a matter of minutes outside peak traffic.

  • Arriving by train: Kanjurmarg is about 3 km from the centre. Vikhroli and Ghatkopar are also within about 5 km of us. Autos are available outside all three.
  • Arriving by metro: Aarey JVLR is closest to us at about 1.2 km; Marol Naka and Saki Naka are about 2.2–2.3 km.
  • Arriving by air: Mumbai Airport T2 is around 6 km from us, roughly 15–25 minutes.
  • Tell any driver “Saki Vihar Road, opposite L&T Gate No. 6” — the road is long, and “Powai” alone will not get you to the door.

What we do for exam guests

We have hosted enough candidates to have a routine for it:

  • Cab arranged for your reporting time. Tell the front desk the night before and one will be waiting. At 6:30 AM you do not want to be standing on the road refreshing an app. This is the single most useful thing we do.
  • A quiet room. Say at booking that you have an exam and we will place you away from the corridor and the road where we can.
  • Early breakfast. Buffet breakfast runs each morning at our in-house restaurant. If your reporting time falls before service starts, tell the desk the night before and we will sort something out.
  • 24×7 front desk. Trains run late. Arrive whenever you arrive.
  • Luggage held after checkout — useful when the exam finishes at noon and your train is in the evening.
  • We will check your travel time against the address on your admit card at check-in.

Rooms, and travelling with family

Most candidates do not come alone, and that is sensible.

  • On your own, or with one parent: the Cedar Deluxe — twin beds, a work desk for a last revision, fast Wi-Fi. Maximum 2 guests.
  • Two parents travelling with you: the Banyan Trio takes up to 3 guests in one room — the most economical arrangement.
  • Several exam dates in the same month: the Teak Studio has a kitchenette and weekly rates, which suits candidates sitting multiple papers in one cycle.

Original photo ID is required for every guest at check-in, including anyone accompanying you. Tell them before they leave home. Under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

A note on booking around exam dates

Look at the calendar above and you will notice the pattern: several exams run across two or three consecutive days — IBPS Clerk Prelims on 10 and 11 October, RRB Officer Scale I on 21 and 22 November, RRB Office Assistant on 6, 12 and 13 December.

On those dates, candidates from across Maharashtra and beyond are all looking for the same rooms at the same time. Book as soon as your admit card is out rather than waiting. Rooms near the centre go first, and rates rise when they do.
