The old village lanes
Before the towers, Powai was villages — and pockets of that older fabric survive between the developments. Walk the inner lanes off Saki Vihar Road early on a Sunday and you'll find temples, banyan courtyards and a slower Mumbai.
The far side of the lake
Everyone photographs the lake from the promenade. Cross toward the IIT side and the crowd disappears; the same water, none of the traffic hum.
Campus chai points
IIT Bombay's tea stalls serve some of the suburb's best conversations. Visitors can walk in through the main gate; ask anyone for the nearest chai point and follow the students.
The workers' lunch homes
Around MIDC and the L&T belt, unmarked lunch homes serve fish thalis and dal-rice to office floors at prices the malls can't imagine. If the queue is long at 1 PM, join it.
Rooftop monsoon watching
When the rains hit, the hills behind Chandivali disappear into cloud. Any east-facing window in Powai becomes a ticket to the show — our guests get it free with the room.
