1. Location beats star rating
Powai traffic turns two kilometres into thirty minutes at peak hours. Decide where your mornings start — L&T, SEEPZ, Hiranandani, IIT — and stay within a short hop of it. A cheaper room across JVLR can cost you an hour a day.
2. Ask when the rooms were last renovated
"Budget" should mean an honest rate, not a tired mattress. Renovation age is the single best predictor of your experience. Our own rooms were fully rebuilt in 2025 into four formats — Cedar Deluxe, Banyan Trio, Teak Studio and The Mahogany Soak.
3. Check the billing, not just the tariff
If work is paying, a GST-compliant invoice is non-negotiable. Many small lodges can't issue one; any serious hotel can.
4. Breakfast on-site saves your morning
A buffet breakfast downstairs is worth more than a discount coupon — especially before an early meeting or airport run.
5. Direct rate vs app rate
Aggregator apps add commission that hotels bake into the price. Independent hotels can quote lower directly — always call or WhatsApp before you book on an app.
6. A front desk that answers at midnight
Flights into Mumbai land late. A 24×7 staffed desk is the difference between a smooth 1 AM check-in and a phone ringing into silence.
